The News Ain’t All Bad.
June 5, 2009 – 1:11 amToday I got my walking papers. Starting Wednesday of next week, I’ll be furloughed from my job. As usual, I’ll believe it when they are taking my ID card and waving goodbye. Too many times have I been informed that I’ll be furloughed only to stay on an additional month. So until Tuesday afternoon, it’s business as usual as I got other fish to fry.
I meant the take a look at that squealing wheel, but it I figured I’d rather do it tomorrow on the off chance that it takes more than the afternoon to fix. I’m sure it’s a broken spring or clip for the brake shoe. We shall see.
After work Corin and I went to the sporting goods store and bought a recumbent exercise bike. This thing is awesome. You get a great work out, raise your pulse rate, and all while reclining so you don’t put stress on your back. I’ve started walking again and I think I’ll add 30 minutes on the bike on top of that. Funny little side story: while we were emptying the box of all the bike parts we noticed a little red box at the bottom. It turned out to be a half-full pack of Xiong Shi cigarettes. From the other side of the world, some poor Chinese working stiff lost his smokes in our box. I can imagine him saying “Oh no! My smokes! What fuck!?!”
In preparation for DC’s Blackest Night event, I’m reading all the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps issues starting with Green Lantern: Rebirth and Green Lantern Corps: Recharge. I realized that the reason I love the Green Lantern mythos so much is that it’s a superhero take on the Jedi mythos. I haven’t read any GL from before Rebirth, but this post Rebirth stuff is fantastic. Really good.
Here comes the weekend. Time to clear out some of those To Do list items!
