The Bottom Line
May 8, 2003 – 8:40 amYesterday was very successful. I got my license. It was very easy. I don’t know why I put it off so long. All I had to do was fill out a paper and sign a form. There wasn’t a test or driving. For some dumb reason the TX DPS doesn’t accept credit cards. I didn’t find this out until I had to pay. The woman was very nice and went on her break while I went to the Conoco up the street (S. Congress). It cost me $24, but now I can legally drive an insured vehicle in the great state of Texas. My California license was kept….bummer.
After that I caught up with Jacob. He is Corin’s step-brother. We had lunch at Star Seeds café. It’s a small boho café next to the freeway downtown. It’s veggie-friendly and the food was tasty. The service was…mediocre at best. I’ve noticed that the waiters and waitresses in Austin are just not trying very hard. There was a homeless man that pointed out the “no weapons” sign on the door and alluded to something about the government. He followed us in and sat at the counter to read the Chronicle (local alternative news and lifestyle paper). He asked what sleep deprivation was. I told him. He said he went 7 or 8 days without sleep. He said it was important for the people that he did, for his job. He noticed Jacobs NYPD hat and asked if Jacob was an officer for the NYPD. I told him no; I didn’t now where Jacob got that hat (or why he wore it). The man said Jacob could be a terrorist. He then let off a stream of in babble. I ordered and the man went to a different part of the café.
After lunch, we went back to Jacobs house. He has set up his drum machine and synthesizer with a mixer to his computer. We played around with the machines and he played me what he had been working on. It was a sort of chaotic blend of techno and video game music. Not bad. He wanted me to help him with some video file conversion stuff. I sat at his computer and was disgusted with the way he organized his files. I started fixing things, like a parent combing a child’s hair. It frustrates me. So I fixed the movies he wanted to watch.
After a while of playing with machines, he started getting testy and pissed me off. He didn’t like me playing guitar while he payed with the synth…DUH that is what bands do. So I moved and he told me not to hit his drum machine with the guitar. I didn’t, but he said I came close. That passive aggressive shit pisses me off. I put the guitar away and said it was time to go.
I got home, not feeling happy. Corin was in a good mood. She gave me a bag of Doritos and I munched. After a while she started glaring at me. Then I got some water. More glare. She said I was making too much noise. Then I was drinking to loudly. That was when I decided to skip American Idol at Erin’s and go to bed. A day that should have been all victory, ended in defeat.
